You may be thinking “What does going green have to do with beauty?” right? Sometimes, especially during my morning jogs, I marvel at God’s beautiful creation that we often times take for granted.

Many people think that “going green” requires a lot of effort and that its a problem that’s over their heads. Its really the little things that count and if we all made a small effort,it would eventually have a major impact on the environment and on human life.

Besides the actual environment, society plays a big role in sustainable development.I love the saying “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle”.What you give back to society doesn’t have to be tangible for you to touch a life.

I previously worked as a Sunday school teacher for 4years at a local church and many of the kids came just for that one meal.I did this for so many years and for a long time,i had no clue how much of an impact I had made on some of those kids.Moral of the story,a simple kind gesture is the beginning of the healing process.

Give love, show love, teach love.Whether its to the people around you or to your environment. Its initiatives such as Miss Earth South Africa that help to shed some light on these issues and empowering young women to make a difference any way they can.

With that said, here are some green tips:

1) Choose a laptop over a desktop,it consumes 5times less energy.

2) Lower your geysers heating temperatures.

3) Buy fresh foods instead of frozen ones.Frozen foods use 10 times more energy to produce.

4) Only fill the kettle with as much water as you need.

5) Choose a shower instead of a bath.An average bath uses about 160 litres of water,where as a a 5minute shower only uses 60litres.

6)Repair leaks and dripping taps!

7) Change your driving habits. You can save a lot of money and fuel by avoiding harsh braking and accelerating.

8) Try to make a conscious effort to separate and recycle glass, plastic, paper and biodegradable products in your home and at work.

9) Try to choose glass packaged products over plastic ones as they can b e recycled more willingly than  plastic or cans.

Waking up at 4AM to get to a photo-shoot is no joke, especially because winter is slowly creeping in.Nonetheless,it was absolutely worth it.I’ve been waiting to update my portfolio for  a while so this was way overdue.

The weather was beautiful and we managed to get the sunrise just in time.So breath-taking with such a crisp breeze. These are all the “behind the scenes” shots. A huge thank you to my “entourage” ! I love you all.

I was having fun holding that camera for all of 2minutes(^^,).It was a great, progressive day.I’ll share a few shots with you a little later.

Breakthrough…

breakthrough

Tyler Perry is one of my favourite screenplay writers and producers.I came across this post he shared a few days ago.I was deeply moved...

"Now on to why I'm writing. It's about 6am here. Really quiet. The kind of quiet where even a still small voice can sound like a scream. I was sitting here thinking about the first time I took a flight on a small private jet. Many of you know that I'm an aviation buff. I love planes and flying. That's crazy, seeing as how my passion for it started out as a way to get over my fears. And my first flight was my scariest.

That morning, when I got to the airport, it was cloudy, raining and cold. I told the pilots that I was a nervous flyer and asked how the weather was. He said, "it’s rough down low but great up high." Now I'm looking at the sky, it didn't look so great up high to me. But I said a prayer and got on. We took off. It was so turbulent. I was bouncing all over the place. I sat there thinking, "why would they tell me the weather was fine?"

After about ten minuets of being bounced around I asked the pilots why it was so rough. They told me that it would get better as soon as they were allowed to climb higher. I asked who was holding us at that altitude and they said Air Traffic Control. There were a lot of planes in the area and for our own safety we had to stay at that altitude. I sat down, bouncing around some more, white knuckled and all, until the flight attendant told me that we had just been cleared to climb higher. I felt the plane pitch up and the thrust of those powerful jet engines kick in. We bounced around some more. It seemed to have gotten worse. Visibility through my window was non-existent. I was about to ask them to land and let me off the plane. But then we broke through the clouds. There was the sun and the air was so smooth that it didn't even feel like we were moving.

By now, I'm sure you're wondering, "why am I reading all this?" Well, I’ll tell you. Flying through rough weather is a lot like making it through life. Sometimes there are a lot of dark clouds, a lot of bad moments. So bad that you want to give up or turn around like I wanted to. Sometimes you can't go higher because something or someone is trying to hold you back or you're being held at that altitude for your own safety. Sometimes you’re not ready to go higher. God is protecting you from yourself because he knows that you can’t handle going higher. Sometimes he’s hiding you, preparing you to be ready. (That gave me a million thoughts. I’ll save that for another email). Sometimes it's so dark you can't see which way to go. But just like air traffic control had to give us permission to go higher, this morning I wanted to give you permission to go higher. Climb!! The weather is so much better up there. The sun is shinning bright up higher. Stop living your life so low.

Now it's not going to be easy to get through those clouds. You’re going to have to hold your head up and use all the strength in your soul to get through, but you will. Use prayer as your fuel and go higher. You have just been given permission to climb higher. Fly above it all."

I think we can all take something from this.Go well on your journey ;-)

Bandage dresses…

Unless their leggings or anything remotely close (judge me later).I  sometimes insist on wearing them.I don’t know…its like a love hate relationship.:-/

Anyway,bandage dresses rock!

5TH BRICS SUMMIT- DURBAN (ICC)

IMG02461-20130405-13555TH BRICS SUMMIT2
5TH BRICS SUMMIT So here’s is what I’ve been up to lately. I was at the 5th annual BRICS summit from the 26-27 March 2013 working as a service provider. The purpose of this conference is for the developing countries (Brazil,Russia,India,China,South Africa) to come together and discuss  economical development in these countries and how they can work together to achieve that.I believe business has a big part to play in this, and I think young people should take the initiative by taking advantage of this opportunity. It was an absolute honour to be  a part of it. I got to hold an umbrella for Patrice Motsepe (one of the wealthiest and  most influential men in the world) Open-mouthed smileAND Jacob Zuma(President of South Africa) waved at us!Directly at us! lol. We were chuffed.!
Most certainly an unforgettable experience.
